Stem cell has a capacity to differentiate to all cell types consisting of organ and tissue in adult. According to differentiation potency, stem cell is categorized to embryonic stem cell and adult stem cell.
Embryonic Stem Cell; ESC
ESC is an early-stage cells derived from
development of fertilized egg.
ESC is totipotent cell type that is able to
differentiate into generate new adult body
like as fertilized ovum.
Adult Stem Cell
Although adult stem cell is not totipotent
cell type, it has a potential to differentiation
restrictively, thus it is defined as multipotent cell.
Mainly, adult stem cell is categorized as two types.
One is the mesenchymal stem cell is able to
differentiate into tissues which is derived from
mesoderm, mesoderm origin tissues.
The other is the hematopoietic stem cell
is able to differentiate into blood cell.
Mesenchymal Stem Cell; MSC
As a small amount, MSC is in all organ and tissue such as adipose tissue, amniotic fluid and umbilical cord.
